“Hello, everyone! I’m excited to share that I’ve just embarked on my journey as a real estate agent. If you or anyone you know has any real estate needs, please feel free to reach out to me. I would be thrilled to have the opportunity to serve you.”

This is the first baby step that many new Real Estate Salespersons (RES) take to kickstart their business: sending a text message to all friends, acquaintances, and family. Don’t be a secret agent! So that’s exactly what I did.

The Responses
The responses I received were a mixed bag of concern, surprise, and encouragement:

Concerned Friend:
“Hi! What is wrong? Let’s catch up soon and let me know if you can’t find a job. I can look out for you. Will not want to see you begging for business on the roads.”

Surprised Colleague:
“OMG, what happened! You’ve been doing so well in Corporates. What made you switch to this ‘dirty’ industry?”

Supportive Buddy:
“Oh! Congratulations! But, be prepared to deal with all sorts of people – some may not be honest. You must brace yourself. I will be there for you if you need me.”

Amused Acquaintance:
“Wow… interesting. Never thought you would do this. My impression of you is always ‘aloof’. Hahaha…”

Mixed Feelings
Even before I started, I was aware of the general negative perception of real estate agents. I also knew that it would be challenging to survive in this industry, not only because of external factors but also due to my own personality—I am an introvert, after all.

However, reading these responses left me with a swirl of emotions. On one hand, they were heartwarming as my friends genuinely expressed concern for my well-being. On the other hand, they highlighted the harsh realities I will have to face moving forward and ignited a bit of fear in me.

Moving Forward
Despite the mixed feelings, I’ve made my decision to start this new chapter in my life. I understand that the road ahead may be tough, and the industry may present numerous challenges. But I am ready to face them head-on.

So, wish me luck as I navigate this new journey. And remember, if you or anyone you know needs any real estate assistance, I’m here to help!
