I laced up my sneakers and headed out for my morning jog, the rhythmic patter of my steps setting the pace for the day ahead. It was a routine I cherish.

Returning home, I grabbed a quick shower and a bite to eat when my phone buzzed with urgency. Just as I settled in, my phone buzzed – Mr. Yang, my tenant. Panic laced his voice, “Gas leak! I smell gas in the house!” My heart lurched. “Turn off the valve immediately, Mr. Yang,” I instructed, dialing SP Services on speakerphone.

As the wait for the technician unfolded, another call came in – Mrs. Lee, another landlord’s voice tight with frustration, “Eunice, the tenant in Unit 3B is late on rent again! Can you chase him up? Worst case, eviction.”

Juggling these crises was just another Tuesday for a real estate agent like me.

Next up – a marathon of viewings. Balancing a buyer eager to see three potential properties across the island and ensuring timely access to a landlord/seller’s unit for lease and sale listings demanded ninja-level route planning. Time management is my lifeblood!

Many see our job as simple: list, show, earn. But the reality is far more intricate. We handle the messy follow-ups – chasing late rent, coordinating repairs, navigating tense negotiations. These, to us, are essential services, but to some clients, just “part of the job.” And when things go wrong, the buck stops with the agent.

Yet, there are gems – clients who value our expertise and professionalism. It’s their genuine appreciation, coupled with my passion for the industry, that keeps me going. But a little understanding from the public would be nice. We’re not just chasing commissions; we’re juggling responsibilities, playing peacekeeper, and ultimately, trying to make a living in this dynamic city.
